Lights ownership

Who Owns the Christmas Lights?

With Orlando Holiday Lighting, you own the lights. We install lights you buy or already own, we do not rent holiday lights or store customers' lights, and when the season ends we neatly return them to your garage, porch or attic. Some companies supply and store the lights as part of a bundled price, so it pays to ask who owns them before you book.

How it works with us

  • You own the lights. Bring your own, buy new ones, or pay for them and we will pick them up for you.
  • We install them, test every strand and set your timers.
  • At takedown, we neatly coil and place your lights in your garage, porch or driveway. We carry them into your attic only when your bins are sturdy and the access is safe (see our Terms).
  • Takedown is half the price of installation, and you can book it whenever you like, or leave your lights up all year.
  • Next season you already own everything, so a repeat install is just labor.

Two ways installers handle lights

Some companies are full-service: they supply the lights, install them, take them down and store them, all inside one bundled price. Others, like us, are labor-based: you own the lights and pay for the work. Neither is wrong, but they cost and behave differently.

Questions to ask any installer

  • Who owns the lights, you or the company?
  • Where are they stored in the off-season, and is that included in the price?
  • If I cancel next year, what happens to the lights I paid for?
  • Can I use lights I already own or bought at a store?
  • Are takedown and storage priced separately, and how much are they?
  • What happens if a section fails in the middle of the season?

Where to buy lights

Want commercial-grade lights? Our preferred supplier is Christmas Lights Etc, which also has a wholesale and commercial sales page. We have no affiliate arrangement and earn nothing when you buy there; it is simply a supplier we like. You can also buy from Home Depot or Lowe's, and we will install those too.

How to store your lights so they last

  • Test every strand before you put it away and toss anything that fails.
  • Wrap each strand around a reel or a piece of cardboard so it does not tangle.
  • Use sturdy, hard-shell plastic totes with flat lids, and do not overfill them.
  • Label each tote by area (front roofline, garage, trees) so next year goes faster.
  • Keep totes dry and off the floor. Garages in Florida get humid, so a closet or an attic tote is better when it is safe.

Want us to supply lights too?

We can buy lights for you and hang them, or install a permanent LED track system with materials included. Text photos of your house and we will tell you the options and prices.

Common questions

Do I own the lights if Orlando Holiday Lighting installs them?

Yes. You own the lights, whether you bring them, buy them, or pay for us to pick them up. We do not rent holiday lights.

Do you store my lights in the off-season?

No. We do not store customers' lights. At takedown we neatly coil your lights and place them in your garage, porch or driveway, or in your attic when your bins are sturdy and the access is safe.

Do you rent Christmas lights?

Not for home holiday installs. We do rent and set up lighting for one-off events. See our event lighting page.

Can you install lights I already bought?

Yes. Store-bought and stored lights are fine if they are not a complete mess and they actually work. We test them free when they are easy to reach, with no guarantees.

What does takedown cost?

Takedown is half of the installation price. Book it whenever you like, or leave your lights up all year.
