Where to Buy Your Lights, and More Ways We Can Help

Everything in one place: the materials list we use on every job, where to order it, storage bins for after the season, garage organizing and handyman work. Send this page to anyone who asks.

Two ways to get your materials

  • You order. Use the lists below, order and pay yourself, and have everything at your home 7 days before the job.
  • Leave it up to us. Pay us the deposit and the cost of the lights, plus 15% for office work, shipping, receiving, handling and delivery on job day, and we order everything for you. We only order after you have paid. Then we send you a report of what was ordered, deliver the lights, and install them, and you keep the lights.
  • You always pay first. Lights and accessories are paid for 7 days before your install, so shipped items have time to arrive. We never buy materials ahead of your payment.
  • Missing a part on job day? If something is missing, such as an extension cord or hardware, we make the store run at our cost so the job happens.

Amazon order list

Order each item separately. Each link opens an Amazon search for that item. Pick a well-rated listing that matches the description, and choose Prime delivery. The estimated costs are for materials only. They do not include labor, installation or travel, which are priced on your written quote. A basic job is 100 to 150 ft along the roof edge of a one-story home, done from the ground and a ladder. A larger job is about 200 ft, includes upper lines and two-story roof edges, and uses a taller ladder. Over 200 ft is the largest size, and we plan and quote it for your home. We do not go on top of the roof, so neither job uses ridge clips.

Home Depot and Lowe's

Good for a same-day pickup of a reel, timers or clips. Neither store had everything in our search, so you would still need a second order for zip cord and plugs.

Home Depot

Carries a 500 ft C9 spool with sockets every 12 inches, listed at $303.99, plus C9 bulbs. Its C9 LED bulbs were listed at $39.98 for 25, where online stores list them at about $19 to $25. Good for a same-day pickup of a reel, timers or clips. In our search we did not find SPT-1 zip cord or slide-on plugs.

Lowe's

Carries C9 socket cord in 50 ft and 100 ft lengths with 12 inch spacing that can be cut to fit, plus roof clips. In our search we did not find SPT-1 zip cord or slide-on plugs. Store prices can run higher than online.

Permanent lights

Permanent lights stay up all year, and they are installed differently from seasonal holiday lights. They are priced differently to install, too. Every permanent install is custom quoted from your roof height, footage, access, wiring, controller location and how complex the job is, and our seasonal per-foot prices do not apply. You buy the lighting system, then ask us for a permanent install quote.

Govee permanent outdoor lights

The Govee store page on Amazon, with permanent outdoor light systems. Pick the length and model that fits your roofline.

Extension cables. Buy the Govee extension cables too. Without extensions, we cover the gaps with black electrical tape and black out the connections, or leave the lights running straight from one set to the next, and that can look awkward.

XINKAITE 150 ft permanent outdoor lights

A lower-cost permanent system that we install under the soffit. 150 ft eave lighting with app and remote control and an IP67 waterproof rating (details from the listing title). Installing it is priced differently from seasonal lights.

Permanent installs cover the labor, mounting, testing, app setup and basic wire management. Extension cords, timers and extra sections are not included. See our permanent lighting page for more.

Storage bins

We do not store lights, so you keep them. Plan on 2 or 3 totes with lids. Wrap each run loosely around a piece of cardboard or a reel, label each tote by area (front roof, tree, door), and keep the lid on to protect the sockets from damp and dust.

HDX 27 Gal. Tough Storage Tote, black and yellow

Model 999-27G-HDX. Listed at $8.99 each at Home Depot, so about $26.97 for three. You buy the totes, and we add no charge.

Open on Home Depot

If you want your lights put in the attic after takedown, the totes must be hard-shell with flat lids, not overfilled, with a clear ladder or stairway. Otherwise we leave them in your garage, porch or driveway.

Garage clean and organize

A clear garage makes takedown and next season easy. We clean out and organize the space where your storage bins go: sorting what to keep, setting up shelves and bin zones, and labeling everything so your holiday lights are easy to find next year. Each job is quoted in writing before we start. Ask for it with your takedown.
